Larry was raised in Nonantum, Massachusetts, an Italian village of Newton, during the 50's and 60's when life was decidedly different. He inherited his creativity from his Mom a first generation Italo-American, whose artistic abilities were far-reaching. She always encouraged Larry to pursue his talents by making sure he had opportunities to explore and create.
After graduating from Newton High School, he studied at the former Vesper George School of Art, Boston, where he majored in commercial art. VG alumni include Al Capp, Robert Douglas Hunter, Paul Goodnight, Bob Bolling (Archie Comics), Sergio Roffo and Robert McClosky (Make Way for Ducklings). Larry followed a business track applying his skills in newspaper production, t-shirt art and advertising. A long-time member of Scouting, his patch design skills are renowned.
He taught the business of art at Danforth Museum, Framingham and New England School of Art, Boston. Larry has also studied under Wildlife Artist Steve Greco, Landscape Artist Will McCarthy and Calligrapher Marilyn Hecht.
His path eventually brought him to a partnership with Emerson Bearfield Advertising later merged into Burnieika Bearfield Emerson where he filled the role as Partner/Creative Director. Their television and radio spots, print ads and collateral materials were extensive, unique and racked up a list of industry awards. Larry's visual and copy writing creative fingerprints were all over the agency's work.
After retiring from the agency business and marrying long-time business partner Robin Emerson, they acquired a tired pizza and sub shop in their hometown of Carlisle, MA. As the only store in town, they immediately doubled it's size and transformed it into Ferns Country Store. With it's cafe, deli, grocery and beer & wine offerings, it's country charm captured the marketplace. Larry designed the hand-drawn logo and oversaw the extensive marketing that propelled their visibility throughout the region. They sold the store in 2018 and officially retired - for real this time.
Robin and Larry split their time between their homes in Carlisle, MA and Captiva Island, FL. And thoroughly enjoy their two Sons, their significant others and 8 Grandchildren - most of whom have also inherited the creative gene.
